The American Business Awards now have an application on Facebook called My Work Accomplishments. Once you've installed this free application on your Facebook wall, you can use it to brag about your accomplishments at work, share those accomplishments with your friends and invite them to comment on them, and then submit your compilation of achievements and comments to The American Business Awards as a free nomination of yourself in any of six categories:
- Corporate Communicator/PR Professional of the Year
- Creative Professional of the Year
- Marketer of the Year
- Product Developer of the Year
- Support Staffer of the Year
- Technical Professional of the Year
Here are some basic steps on how to use My Work Accomplishments
- Install the free application on your Facebook wall
- Once it's installed, note that there are three tabs on the application: Home, My Work Accomplishments, and Friend Accomplishments
- On the My Work Accomplishments tab, summarize one of your achievements at work in the text box labeled "New Accomplishment..," then click the Add button to save it.
- To share that accomplishment with your friends, by publishing it on your Wall and on your friends' home pages, click the Share link under your saved accomplishment.
- If your friends comment on your achievement, you'll see the number grow under the Show Comments button next to that achievement.
- To edit a saved achievement, click the Edit link under your achievement.
- Repeat this process everytime you achieve something noteworthy at work.
- If your friends are also using the My Work Accomplishments app, you can comment on their achievements by clicking on the Friend Accomplishments tab.
- When you've compiled an impressive list of achievements - whether or not they've been commented on by your friends - click on the Nominate Yourself in The American Business Awards button at the bottom of the My Work Accomplishments tab. Follow the instructions, and you'll be able to nominate yourself for free in one of the six categories listed above.
- Be sure to submit your nomination by The American Business Awards' final entry deadline, which is usually April 30. The ABAs are open to all professionals working in the U.S.A.
Note, once you've submitted a compilation of achievements and comments as a nomination to the ABAs, those achievements can't be resubmitted in another category. If you'd like to nominate yourself in a second category, you'll need to create another set of achievements.
